Can't Get The Spacebar To Pause Or Play A Clip?

I have started with the Apple Pro Training Series book on Shake.

On page 39 it states that the spacebar can be used to start and stop clips (like in FCP etc.).

Mine doesn't.

It also says that the . key will play forward (which it does) and the , key will play backwards, which it doesn't.

Am I making a mistake or could my "modern" aluminium keyboard be the cause?

I'm using Shake 4.1

24" 2.8 GHz (Penryn) 4GB RAM iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Iomega 1TB USB 2.0 HD + LaCie Quadra 500GB HD

Wow, you're actually reading the documentation! Way to go pro!
You should also check out the Tutorial that comes with Shake.

Mine doesn't.

These commands only apply to the Flipbook. Note the category "Flipbook" in the text,
which should be above the . and , shortcuts.

Ian,
Since you're working through Paolini's book,
here is a complete list of bugs in the text.
Les

p. 39, the "," shortcut only works in the Flipbook.

Adding a node to a noodle (p. 56, #6; p. 264, #7.).
Press the n key until the node knots
turn yellow, then release the mouse button.

Illustration, p. 148. All colors are destination colors, not source.

Review questions, p. 169, #2: Concatenation also prevents clipping.

Review questions, p. 169, #4: "as well as in the ColorReplace tab
in the Color tool tab."

p. 326, #11: First parameter should be xPan, not xPixels.
Second parameter should be yPan, not yPixels.

Keyboard shortcuts, p. 352, Multiplane view: 3 is perspective, 5 top.

Keyboard shortcuts, p. 392: +/= zooms in, -/_ zooms out.

Here are some documentation errors in the Apple Tutorial that comes
with the application.

p. 48: hold n to insert node in noodle.

p. 56, Tips: "Turn on the Select Group button to load only the selected nodes..."

p. 138, #1: "drag right edge of the clip to frame 76."

p. 138, four locations: "VLUT2" should be "g/o/log".

Thanks for that Les.

I downloaded the official errata which listed only 6 errors.

ERRATA

Lesson 2 / p. 48: "Any node can have a thumbnail--just select it and press R." Change "R" to "T".
Lesson 2 / p. 61 / step 7: Change "Over1" to "Over2". Lesson 2 / p. 66 / step 1: Change "Over1" to "Over2".
Lesson 2 / p. 70 : Answer #6 should be changed so that "press R" says "press T".
Lesson 13 / p.407 / step 3: Replace image with source.tiff image.
Lesson 13 / p.409 / top of page: Replace the image at the top of the page with target.tiff image.

This isn't strictly an error because in some versions of Shake it isn't necessary to press N. However, the book should at least mention that in version 4.1 you have to press it and in version 4.0 you don't.
